Continuing Education & CE Credit Requirements

WPA is proud to sponsor an extensive buffet of Continuing Education offerings for psychologists.  We offer opportunities to hear leading area and regional experts as well as nationally and internationally recognized presenters who cover a wide range of timely topics relevant to the practice of psychology.

Our main event is the Annual Convention each spring, which provides an array of educational experiences plus a social program and active networking. This vibrant event is a highlight of what WPA offers for our continuing personal and professional development.

Our summer programming typically offers continuing education in ethics or other areas, including retreat sessions that combine training with rest and rejuvenation. The fall clinical workshop is two days of in-depth specialized education presented by a nationally respected psychologist. Additional continuing education throughout the year is offered within specialty areas such as Industrial/Organizational, Psychopharmacology, and Forensic/Correctional psychology.

Please see our Calendar on this website for additional information on all our upcoming Continuing Education offerings.  As always, the CE committee welcomes recommendations from WPA members for education topics and speakers.

License Renewal Requirements

In order to renew their licenses, Wisconsin Licensed Psychologists are required to document that they have obtained 40 hours of post-graduate level continuing education each biennium. Continuing education must be related to the individual psychologist's scope of practice. Renewal takes place in odd-numbered years.

The Psychology Examining Board recently implemented a new, much broader, array of "creditable" professional development options for licensees and a longer list of recognized CE sponsors. They have also reinstated the previous requirement for education in ethics, jurisprudence and risk management. CLICK HERE for a copy of the newly revised Psy 4 chapter on CE requirements for license renewal.

The Wisconsin Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to provide continuing education for psychologists. The Wisconsin Psychology Examining Board recognizes APA-approved sponsors as providers of continuing education for Licensed Psychologists.
